DIY LAUNDRY DETERGENT

I’ve always believed that practicality should never sacrifice style—especially when my home decor demands nothing less than “must be pretty”. As someone who knows that every penny counts (stretching them like rubber bands, after all), I got tired of shelling out over 50% more for store-bought laundry detergent that was toxic and comes in brightly colored, plastic bottles which doesn’t quite match my aesthetic.

So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and whip up a batch of DIY detergent that not only gets the job done, smells lovely, but also fits right in with my beautifully curated spaces.

This homemade laundry detergent is my little act of rebellion against overpriced, chemical cleaning products. It cleans like a dream, saves a bundle, and looks stylish enough to be an unexpected accent in my laundry room. With a few simple ingredients and a dash of ingenuity, I’ve crafted a solution that keeps my clothes spotless and my wallet happy.

Now, my home is as eco-friendly and cost-effective as it is pretty—talk about a win-win!

  • Products needed:

    • Baking soda: 4 (16 oz boxes which are = 1 lb each)

    • Borax: 1 (65 oz box is slightly more than 4 lbs)

    • Washing soda: 1 (55 oz is slightly less than 4 lbs so you can just “wing it” or buy 2)

    • Epsom salt: 1 (4 lb bag)

    • Table salt: 1 (typical cylinder box for under $1)

    • Jasmine oil(or other preferred scent)

  • DIY Laundry Detergent Recipe:

    • 4 lbs baking soda (4 boxes)

    • 4 lbs borax (1 box)

    • 4 lbs washing soda (1 box)

    • 4 lbs Epsom salt (1 bag)

    • 2/3 cup table salt

    • 25-50 drops of Jasmine oil (or other preferred scent)

First, I mixed it in a HUGE plastic bin from the garage in a well ventilated area. And then once fully mixed with the essential oil, I poured it into my favorite glass container and added a wooden scoop. The whole downstairs smelled like Jasmine. BONUS!

I made about 2.5 times this recipe and came out with about 40lbs of powder (for under $40) which comes out to 320 loads of laundry at 1/4 cup. This is at least 50% less than it costs per load for store bought stuff.

I would love to know if you love the smell of Jasmine as much as I do and how your DIY Detergent turned out!
